I would expect check in at each deadline date, so seems superfluous? If you can't get one unit painted in 6+ weeks then you really need to drop out. I would also round the dates to be easy to remember. 15th and last day of the month, makes it easier to remember. Stretches it out by a couple of days too, which makes it slightly easier. So 15th October, 30th November, 15th January, 29th February. Fair points

Sticking with the random dates then?

Sticking with the random dates then? Personally, I think if you can’t get roughly one unit a month done, then there’s no real challenge about it. That’s 4 weekends and countless evenings. Just a question of prioritising. Monthly is also easier for the audience to remember to check what stage each army is at. New month? “Ooh! Pay day and new army entries!” But happy to go with whatever is decided.

About 70 people signed up, about half managed something in the first month. Next month we lost a few more, then the next month. Eventually there was about 10 or 12 of us who managed it once a month (with one or two missed months allowed). I think for many, even once a month is considered hard core. I would suggest making it easier to start with, and then if people complain that it's too easy, make it harder. And of course, in your case, there's nothing stopping you setting yourself the personal challenge of one unit per month, and contributing two units instead of one when you have a surplus. The easier we make it, the more inclusive it will be.

A very valid point - happy to go with 6 weeks.

Nord, you're OldFogey? Sorry if I mispronounce. I was, once. I was also GriffinPainting. Back in the day. Even older now, but a change is as good as a rest, and I like being Nord, I can pretend I am some kind of viking.

Maybe. I ran a monthly painting challenge on another forum a few years back. About 70 people signed up, about half managed something in the first month. Next month we lost a few more, then the next month. Eventually there was about 10 or 12 of us who managed it once a month (with one or two missed months allowed). This always happens. Always. About the only thing I can think of that I've seen that this hasn't happened is the Lead Painters League on Lead Adventure, and that's because you've got to be hardcore to even think of signing up. 12 'teams' of 5+ models, painted in 12 weeks. And it's run as a ladder, with, each week, the forum members voting on which pairing of teams is the best painted. I've seen people who've surrendered and submit a previous week's team multiple times, for which they get penalised in ladder points, then voted down almost every time. But each time I've watched, everyone's still there at the finish. As I say though, it's a crazy challenge. So, it's not compulsory to partake. It's not compulsory to complete the month in time. Set your own parameters, and challenge yourself. Six weeks, to me, is messy. Look at the discussion of dates already. Four weeks. Post what you've finished on the 1st of the month. Set realistic targets. If life gets in the way, pick thisself up and crack on and try and hit the target next month.

Sounds good! Hopefully I think I'm in. Might be a slow start, but at least I could paint something! I'll set up my thread later...
