longform:Original Tale of 4 Gamers, they had an amount to spend each month on an army (£25 a month, I think). They had to buy, build and paint the models they spent in that month, and present those models in White Dwarf.
We're going to be a lot more flexible over this, in order to allow as many people as possible to participate.
If you want to take part, you can:
- Set a monthly monetary budget, and do it OG style. (Saving some money from one month to the next, in order to fund a bigger thing, is a thing the original T4G lot did, so that's a thing.)
- Set a points budget, and paint that number of points each month.
- Pick a project army, break it into monthly, digestible, chunks.
- Write up an army list, break it into equal painting effort chunks, assign a playing card to each, draw cards from your deck to decide what to paint each month.
- Some other plan...
Note: Fantasy or sci-fi, don't matter. Try and pick something Middlehammer related. But, to be fair, if you went WWII or something, I personally wouldn't be bothered, so long as you're throwing paint, and hopefully dice.
If you want to take part, start a thread in this bit of the forum. Talk aboot what you're planning to work on, any backstory you might have already, maybe show what already exists, that sort of thing. And, define what your Painting Plan is (OG, points budget, digestible chunks, tarot style, etc.). I'll add a link to this thread for each person.
Then, build, paint, game, and blog (or plog) your progress on your thread. If you want to, talk about your ideas about painting, basing, background, how to play with the dudes, anything you can come up with that'll keep you thinking and motivated to paint.
Each month, we aim to post our painted models on the 1st.
And, try and get a game in with them if possible, over the month. I'd personally start off with using unpainted models where necessary, and play small games (Border Patrol, Path To Glory, Kill Team (original or new), whatever). Later on, pick bigger fights, and, if we can, depending on who's taking part and geographical location, we'll organise meet-ups and a blow-off games in early 2020 (Warhammer World is obvious (and I intend doing something there with whoever's up for it), but if there's clusters of people in other places, with alternate locations, is all good).
We do this until the New Year, show off our hopefully completed armies, and then we do it again, with a new project, or an escalation of the existing one. Your choice.
If you don't manage to complete your month, then that's fine. Post what you have managed, even if it's just painting in progress, dust yourself off, and crack on with the next month.
We're doing this for fun. We're doing this to get paint on models. We won't pick on people who don't complete a month, or have to drop out, or whatever, as we've all got lives, we've all got family and jobs and so on eating into our hobby time. Dust yourself off, and challenge yourself to get back on the horse.
(If we feel that this process needs tweaking, we can do that too. Just make some noise on here.)
Any questions?
