All hail the Middlehammer!
Sorry for not updating sooner, it turns out that the one month system is not compatible with my batch painting. I painted both units more less at the same time, I probably could finish the previous one in the middle of last month, but focused more on the second one, and painted the shields for both units at the same time.
I am really happy with the way the whole force is starting to look, even though I am unsure if I will continue painting dwarfs next year, as after playing few middlehammer games this year, my guy feeling is that I would have more fun playing some dark elves...

Those look awesome. :-)
Could you put them to use in another system, see if they play in a more fun way under different rules? KoW, DR, something like that?
Or maybe they want some supporting elements, like gyrocopters, or flame cannon, or something, to make the army more interesting?

Well, I am not much of a player anymore, but lately the organisers of "Polish Oldhammer Week" reignited the 5 edition nostalgia in me. Most people in Poland started playing WFB in the 4/5 edition, so it is "oldhammer" from Polish perspective:P
So while I am aware that dwarfs performed better in 7 and 8 edition, and they also perform quite well in the "ninth edition", it is quite possible that I will stick to the people that I've meet lately who play the 5 edition herohammer. I have much more dwarfs painted, and use warmachines, slayers and even the funny Anvil of Doom on wheels, but those miniatures were painted in many different time periods, different color schemes, and should be repainted and rebased to fit the cohesive theme I am aiming at now.
I will paint an organ gun and a gyrocopter now, will see how fast it is to paint warmachines, I guess it should be quite a bit faster than rank and file, so maybe it won't be that hard to finish a playable, stand alone force:)

To be honest, I have no horse in the edition war, so can't really comment on that side, but I do think it'd be a shame to stop painting this lovely looking army before you've got it to a point of having a few options.
I actually have a bad history of painting armies for tournaments, spending six months painting and playing with that army, so I can play it competently at the event I'm aiming for, playing with undercoated and part-painted models, and when I finish the painting, and play the tournament, the models go in a box, and never get played with again...
However, one of the groups I game with now has an all-painted rule, which is helping to break that cycle.
