Greetings venerable reader! You have stumbled upon the humble project log of Gorim Uthersson that is gathering a Dawi Force to reconquer the lost hold of Karak Ungor! Having spent many years of adventuring and gathering wealth and power, it is time to proceed with the youthful dream of reclamation and vengeance!
Context: well, I've been collecting dwarfs for around 20 years, but having many other hobbies, most of them were never painted, or what is even worse painted years ago when I had more time and motivation, to be then stripped of paint because "obviously I paint better now, so I will repaint those models". Lately nostalgia got a firm grip on me, and I "re-fell in love" with the 4-5 editions of warhammer, which were the ones I played when being a kid. Suddenly the miniatures / painting style / even the ruleset seem just so fascinating!
The current fluff/idea: Having hundreds of models, it was always hard for me to decide how to paint my dwarfs. Maybe paint each model differently? Maybe each unit? Combining my WFRP experiences which my WFB collection, I've decided to split my dwarfs in few armies, that I can "merge" with my WFRP fluff.
My first/beloved character Gorim was a norse dwarf mercenary adventurer who wanted to form a mercenary band, then army, then earn a fortune and use it to restore the dwarven empire. His norse dwarf army will be of blue/white colours, without gunpowder units, which some animals/monsters/human norsemen included. Modelwise mostly 3 edition citadel dwarfs. I even tried to field it on 5 edition chaos dwarfs rules, using dwarfs as chaos dwarfs and norsemen as hobgoblins / orcs
During his adventurers Gorim was fortunate to meet Prince Uther and his Dragon Company, and during sharing a cart of ale, swore to help him recapture his ancient birthright - the hold of Karak Ungor. So this part/army is the part gathered by Prince Uther and represents the scattered dwarfs that owe allegiance to the heir of Karak Ungor. The collectors guide says that the colours of Karak Ungor are black and white. After some search I've that these colours work quite well, especially when red colour is added as the third to them. I will mainly use Marauder / 4-5 edition Citadel Dwarfs + Uther Dragon Company for this army.
The third part/army planned are the imperial/renaissance dwarfs made from old citadel dwarfs and white knights / assault group miniatures. I am not wasting time on thinking how to paint them, because it will probably be "quite some time" before I finish the first two parts...
What I'll paint for the tale: Okay, but what I will paint for the tale? Well, it is not 100% decided, but what is first in line:
25 Marauder Hammerers
25 Marauder Long Beards
25 Marauder Iron Breakers
25 Marauder Miners
Marauder Organ Gun
For now three units have been prepared, cleaned, based, greenstuff fur cloaks added and proudly marching to the paint desk:
