Hey, this first post is more about me committing than anything else. Right now I'm busy building the halflings (the majority of which are available from The Assault Group). Either way I can lay out what I hope to paint in the next 6 months or so... 12 Lumpin Croop's Archers (inc command) 10 Assorted villagers (from a kickstarter - I can't remember the name right now) 14 Milita with swords 14 Milita with spears 4 Wizards 1 Cannon with 6 crew 2 Hot Pots 1 Highwayhalfling Fingers crossed this works out at roughly 10 models per month, which should be very do-able. Hopefully i'll pick up some more models along the way. If not some stout Dwarfs will come to the rescue! If the dwarfs hold a grudge against the halflings, then maybe they'll be ambushed by some goblins. If I do go down the goblin route, the aim would be to paint up an opposing force comprised mostly of wolf riders. Right now I'm feeling this is the more likely option as I've just finished painting a load of dwarfs, and I fancy a bit of a break from them! Aaaanyway. As soon as the guys are assembled I'll post up a few pics. Also, I'm planning to use mostly those new GW Contrast paints to see how they are with batch painting. Hopefully they'll help with the speed

So, here we are. I'll make some days, as some rocks, undercoat and then take a proper picture with some kind of date stamp. I'd also like to pledge one treeman. I'm sure I have one somewhere The guys with no arms will have their spears added after painting. Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk

I say! That looks like a really fun army to paint. Can't wait to see it come together.

Just gotta think of a colour scheme now!
Options: Green and yellow // a classic I guess Red and white // imperialistic Blue and white // fit with my dwarfs
Any others?
May be a mix. One scheme for each regiment?

Thoughts:
Halflings, to me, aren't normally a race known for their organised military. So, traditionally, they should look more like a militia, with lots of civilian clothes, but with some colours to tie them together as being part of one force. If I was going to do this, I'd pick a colour, e.g. blue, for the unifying colour, and make sure everyone's got something in that colour, a hat, a shirt, a striped shirt, a sewn-on patch, trousers, etc. Then everything else is in neutrals, browns, greens, desaturated yellow, tan, khaki, maybe some dull red. Let the army colour be the bright, spot colour.
You could, on the other hand, do them like that more organised military empire army, with everyone in matching colours, and not so much of the neutral, civilian look. Which sounds like what you're thinking already.
Or, you could do a bretonnian look, where each unit is the retainers of a specific dude, wearing his personal heraldry. And, you could have a shared heraldric colour common across the army, in order to tie them together. And each unit has a pattern and a secondary colour, showing the heraldry of the individual that they are the retainers of (common colour to shows they're overall part of the same family). (A fun thing I've seen done is to have each hero/knight in bright colours, then have the peasantry match the colours of one or more hero, but in a muted version of those colours.)
e.g. every unit has green in its colours, but unit 1 has green and white, divided vertically, unit 2 has green and white, quartered, unit 3 has green and yellow, divided vertically, unit 4 has green and a pale blue, divided diagonally, and so forth.

Nice one! I like the idea of having the same colours, but halved for one unit, quartered the other etc. I'm swinging towards the regimented, uniform look because the two main units are all dressed in "puffs and slash". I'll put brush to mini and see what occurs Sent from my moto g(6) play using Tapatalk

Nice. They look like scratch militia for Stirland, which I imagine is the context for Halfling military operations. If your smaller units are a bit less Puff and Slash (love that), maybe try green and yellow feathers in hats and so on?

A thought regarding puff-and-slash colours and regiments and militias.
Why not make the fancy ones like real-life Landsknechts - a total riot of colour! Basing and use of a particular keynote colour (e.g. red waist sashes, red socks, red feathers etc) tie them together.
Then your less fancy halflings wear slightly duller, more civilian style clothes.
That way the whole lot look like a militia force, but the fancy ones look, well, fancy.
