This thread is not a serious emission of Nerd Rage but a genuine question posed in good faith, albeit with tongue firmly wedged in cheek. Having never seen the appeal of the pointy-eared purveyors of ultimate filth myself I really would like to know: how come there's so much High Elfage around the place?
Is it because they were in the fourth edition boxed set and that was the way in for the Middlehammer majority? Is it the sense of "if the British Empire and Atlantis had a high fantasy baby" that the background suggests? Is it the chance to be noblebright in a world of grimdark? Or are you all just crazy for High Magic, you cheesy sods?

Well 4th ed didn't help me, plus i got the later great boxset of blood isle for the skaven part. At that point a few additional models before the prices rocketed made it an easy go too.
The fluff side... probably im mostly drawn to hays days of the setting
The old world before the battle of the beards (btw found the gw pdf to do those) or 30k of the great crusades. Where if a different choices were made the game wouldn't exist. Grim dark isn't always exciting when the clock has been stuck at 1min to midnight for 25yrs

I've only ever had a brief dalliance with the Helfs. I think it was playing one of the RTS PC games (name escapes me offhand) in about 2010, as the Helfs, and for some reason I got White Lions stuck in my head. So bought a bunch of them off ebay (50 or so of them), added enough core bits and pieces to call it an army, bought some chariot kits to make lion cavalry out of, got really bummed out by trying to paint white over a black undercoat, and then ran out of steam on them...

I always wanted to make the Maidenguard (100 Maidenguard plus the High Queen) but could never afford it.
Then when I started to design my own corner of the Warhammer World (the Border Principality of Tyrka) I needed a reason for every army to plausibly be present. So the High Elf trading outpost of Tor Sethain was born, and it only took me, ooh... fifteen years or so? to get to the point where I am seriously putting paint on High Elf models!

Similar. we are playing a Campaign exploring Albion about Lonely Ogben after the End Times Wars (We opened the Southern portal to allow the Old Gods of Order back to the word). So the Elves are united - However not united, meaning the Dark Elves culture are still raiding but it of such a minor issue for the Elves, no one cares..... until I get my force painted lol

Is this more like the boarder princes, or more like the world building that you would do with Mighty Empires? The world building out of the cannon of GW does interest me quite a bit.

Internet Heinrich Kremmler time!
Yeah, was never a particular fan of the Helves myself... while they do have a certain attraction about that iconic aesthetic, I still just sort of write them off as WFB on easy mode...

Except in sixth edition, where they're solidly middle of the pack and everyone thinks they're dreadful. (To be fair, Intrigue at Court is a horrible rule encouraging all sorts of gamey crap to play around, and there's too much going on in the Rare slots, but other than that it's fine.)
