Anyone remember Nigel Stillman and Stillmania? I've been poking around the internet and found a few things (most interestingly this interview). I loved Stillmania and I still base a lot of my decisions when it comes to building armies on it even now. Indeed most of my extant or planned WFB armies are Stillmanian, specifically 2000 points and WYSIWYG and all that. What are other people's thoughts on the great Nigel Stillman?

He was one of my favourite rules designers. Loved the dogs of war and lustria stuff he did in particular, and going back further 3rd ed. Warhammer armies. The Stillmania series of articles still resonate with me today and I’ve carried his teachings over into army design with other game systems. This has nothing to do with the fact that I paint glacially slowly and generally don’t have the luxury of much choice! The man was also a machine at trash terrain, I’ve got fond memories of building a mordheim board in a weekend copying his WD articles. Also anyone remember that crashed soviet era rocket terrain piece from the war games terrain book? Awesome.
The man was, and almost certainly still is, a legend.

Absolutely! Stillmania rules! I’m currently doing a 2,000 points Empire army following Stillman’s doctrine - with army display base and everything!
The background story, strong colour theme, personal touches and scenery to underline the theme really make for a wonderful immersive experience. Having a set points target also gives a feeling of accomplishment - though nothing to stop expanding on it later.
I’ll post a link to my blog once I’ve updated it - been too busy painting! My Instagram is relatively up to date: FoxLordPaints

I was a fan of the idea, BUT didn't really thought about using it, because I always want to have way more stuff than 2000 points:P And if you have way more, why not use it?

As time goes by I find old Nige's approach more and more attractive. My sprawling collection of Sylvanians aside, I can't be arsed with much more than 1000-2000 points of anything and the divisional, measured, when-its-done-its-done approach is about the only way I'm going to get there. I also appreciate that his painting is all about cutting corners: as my {redacted} {redacted} arthritis gets worse I couldn't go all in painting even if I wanted to...

Nigel is a legend in my eyes and memories. I was fortunate to have met him when I had a short stint at the Nottingham design studio and he was so kind and generous with his time, advice and bitz box lol. I was too young and into painting rather than the rules to appreciate how much Nigel put into the rules and background to some the most iconic characters and rules sets that make up the Old World. His contributions are what I love about the old games in general and everything with his name attached is pure gold to read and makes my games so much more enjoyable to play.
He still attends the BOYL sometimes, so it would be great to have a chance to meet him again at some point to talk about his ideas and inspirations.

I have a large Empire army and a reasonably large Undead army but I don't want to try and build armies the same sort of size for the others. 2,000 points is much more manageable, both in terms of cost in collecting and time to paint!
