So I have for a while loved the lore and the models/creative nature of 30k - But frankly don't get one with the rules and scale of the models required for a game in 8th/HH rules. So going back to my personal favourite edition... 2nd Ed This is a place for those among you that want to help make 30k for 2nd Ed Helpful links and attachements 2nd Ed Battle BibleUnits cost Calc Spread sheet - based of RT points systems that was used for 2nd ed and tweaked during play testing. I really like this idea, it's the edition I started with. What points do you recommend? I remember that 1500 in second edition was a full time job and Horus heresy is played with a lot more points.

I would advise using second edition rules for what second edition rules are designed for; small special ops engagements rather than the "one squad is thirty men" pitched battle extravaganzas of the seventh edition system.
I'm all in favour of mucking around with a couple of smaller elite units doing infiltration/assassination/shenanigan type missions and leaving the big battles to something that's designed to do those well.
In other words, play 1500 because that's what second edition is tuned for.

1500pts seems to be a good amount imo too - I would start at 500pts if it brand new. I would love too see what you come up with! I am taking 1500pts of 1ksons to BOYL doing a game sent in the great crusade
