Greeting fellow warhammerers (it's a word I guess)! So a few words about me: I've been collecting and playing warhamer since the late 90's. I went through quite a few different armies: Undead, Wood Elves, High Elves, Empire.... Some of them I still own others were sold off years ago (much regrets). I got into playing an all-goblin (or rather non-orc) force in 7th ed, when the new NG plastics arrived with BFSP. I liked the idea of playing on 'hard mode' and since I am a big Tolkien fan, I liked pitching the little green tide against my friends High Elves. Somehow painting goblins turned out to be really addicting and as of now they are my only mostly painted fantasy force. The army clocks at around 2250 points including upgrades and I use it mostly to play 8th, with the occasional game of 9th age here and there. I've used to run a blog on the old TWF boards, but the forum is gone I think. I am active on a couple of different boards now, so apollogizes in advance if you have already seen this army before. I will be posting it in chunks, as I don't wanna overload people with pictures as usual! So first up my Warlord: Agaricomycetes, a great goblin philosopher and tactician. Using my favourite old Skarsnik model. Night Goblin BSB. Built waaay back, painted last year after my come back to warhammer. My spear goblin horde - 50 strong. Da crazies! Shamans. One stock and one kitbashed. Wolf boyz. First to be deployed and first to panic off the table. More to come soon....

Very nice indeed, just started painting my goblins up with redcaps, it goes really well with the green skin. They are surprisingly quite quick to paint, but I could not get through fifty for a unit! Your banner is excellent.

Thanks for the kind words Old Fog... I mean mr Nord . Incidentally the red caps were inspired by some of your own night goblins, that I've seen you post on The Warhammer Forums many moons ago. About the horde - I actually like grinding through big units like this. Don't get me wrong I enjoy going to town on a single model, but I find doing the rank-and-file troops strangely calming. Unlike freehand! That banner took 3 baths in the solvent before I was happy with it.

Ha ha, rumbled. I changed my name and moved to Skyrim. Red and green is an old contrast trick used by GW in the early days, comics, painters, etc. So I would have probably picked it up from one of those. Recently though I have been more interested in myth and folklore, the origins of goblins from a non-Tolkien perspective, and the redcap is one of those creatures. One of the origin myths is based on the Anglo-Scottish border (near where I live), a wicked little gnome like creature who soaked his cap in the blood of his murdered victims, those tales possibly growing from real life atrocities perpetrated in the times of the Border Reivers. Apologies, hijack over, back to the goblins.

Nice! I've not seen gobbos done in red like that (that I can remember), and you've managed to get the balance nice so it don't look like lots of christmas trees with spears... :-D

nord Hah! That's fair. I hope you didn't take an arrow to the knee in the process That redcap is an interesting tale. I can totaly feel the "myth and folklore" inspiration showing through your more recent work. There's something about it that makes me think of the moody and misty Alan Lee illustrations, that I've grown up with. That makes me think about making an undead army inspired by my local (Eastern European) myths and legends. The Witcher games could provide some solid inspiration... fiendil Big thanks! Acheiving a deep crimson was a bit of a pain, before I've discovered Khorne Red. But the real trick was not to make the gobbos look PINK. There's a couple gits like that....ashamed and hiding in the back ranks. Anyways, here's some more, this time of the spider riding variety: These were early test models and I haven't done them justice I feel. I can still make it up to their 40 pals sitting in a box in my cupboard. I have an abundance of spare spiders but very few wolves. This seemed like a natural conversion to do. The chariot is scratch built (there will be more I hope). A warlord on spider (sometimes used as Snagla Grobspit). I went a bit crazy with his trophy rack and throne. He's magnetised in case I have the urge to put him on a bigger spider in the future. Speaking of which.... This is the biggest single model I have painted to date. I must say that it was pretty nerve-wracking. Could not have done the carapace on the spider without an airbrush. A simple conversion using the shrine to build a little throne. I've added the spider rider banner bearer to the howdah, as I can't see myself painting him for a regular unit. All for now, but there's more....

Arachna update! Scary stuff. So many spiders. All so well done. I would be particularly scared of the giant spider, not because I don't like spiders, but because of all those little spiky plastic bits sticking out. How do you play with that and not break bits off? On the subject of painting red, I have found that the end result depends most on what colour you paint under the red. You can get a million shades from one pot of red, purely by varying what you prime/underpaint with. An obvious experiment is to paint it over black, then over white for some extreme examples. But I have painted the same red over brown, over orange, over yellow, for some more natural looking results. Add inks into the mix and it's mind boggling.

I got some nice rich, slightly dusty reds, on a Hordemachine Farrow army, with blood red over a mid-brown undercoat, drybrush highlighted with burnt orange. I'll have to experiment with other options.

That makes me think about making an undead army inspired by my local (Eastern European) myths and legends. The Witcher games could provide some solid inspiration... Do it, do it, do it. If you're not already familiar with her work, have a look at Ana's work on Gardens of Hecate. Particularly back in the early days, and the Graveyard Project she did, it felt there was plenty of inspiration from her local (Croatian) myths and scenery and so on.

nordThank you! I must admit that pulling him out of the glass cabinet is always a tense moment haha. The goblin nest on his back isn't glued on, so this helps with transport, but I usually play at my place anyways. I agree about the red, it is a fascinating colour to paint. When it comes to the gobbos I developed one method and try to stick with it in order to produce a consitent look for the entire army. It's usually khorne red as base, followed by a murky wash of glaze medium, P3 brown ink, a tiny drop of black and red paints. Then I highlight using my ancient red gore (I stocked up - it's more vibrant than khorne red), followed by a highlight of wazdakka red/bugman's glow. I sometimes substitute red gore with the vallejo equivalent, but for some reason it sometimes ends up looking too glossy. fiendilOh my! That is some John Blanche level of artistic craziness . Love the cemetary that she's made, especially using jewellry crosses for well, crosses. I am not that level of a painter/model maker, but it's trully inspiring stuff.

Thank's Llamafish! Happy you like them too . Next up, the range attack division: Archer mob. These lads usually hang out with one of the mages, release fanatics and try either to stay away from danger, or get thrown under the bus. Either way, they rarely end their games alive. Not easy being green! While painting them I got fed up with the red hoods and started doing some black ones too. Spear chukkas. Scratch built out of balsa wood, plasticard and some bits from all over the place. The ropes were twisted by hand. I was never a fan of the metal spear chukka model. Plus goblin warmachines are just perfect for scratchbuilding. I've used the older models for the crews as the newer ones are hard to convert. Doom diver - a classic. I know the new model was far more detailed, but I just love this old little piece of nonsense. Probably will add a second one at some point. I'm still missing a catapult to complete my artillery collection. Not sure if I will scratch build this one too, might get myself one of those hot, new, goblin trebuchets from knightmare miniatures.

Dude, have you just knocked those out in the last two weeks, or were they already painted?

Hahah I'd wish! It's taken me YEARS I am a super slow painter. I'm uploading in chunks as I didn't want to spam ya all with pictures too hard. But we're almost at the end, or shall we say it "in the present".
