Once more, dear reader, I must beg your indulgence. Grant me mercies and boons, or something of like ilk. It's been a long, rough, depressing summer; I lost my job, my benefits and my savings in the space of about six weeks and have been reduced to the brink of destitution and frankly, I haven't had much energy or interest to spare. Also, my cousin wanted his desk back and I've had to rearrange the entire hobby space to account for it. Until today. Because today is the start of the last week in September and on the last weekend of September I am going to Exetaaaaaar (don't ask) to play some bloody Warhammer. And since I am unemployed for another week, I have time to catch up. Also, my purple paint exploded and I had rather a lot of it to use up. SO! As you can see, I am nearly at the point at which I declared I would be at this point in time. How timely. The Battle Standard Bearer and Drakenhof Guard need basing, and then they're done. The Crossbowmen and Archers are started. There remain twelve Knights (to be primed) and just over twenty Skeletons (in mixed stages of disrepair) to proceed with. I have three days until the long march south to Exetaaaaaar. Can it be done? I don't know, but I'm off to prime some Knights.

Dude, that's rough. Hope life's a bit more even at this point.
Did you sell the tomb kings, or did stuff balance out before that became necessary?
(I'd love some downtime to focus on life laundry and painting, but not by way of having no job or income...)

And, I'm loving the look of those crossbowmen. :-D

(I'd love some downtime to focus on life laundry and painting, but not by way of having no job or income...) Not sold 'em yet. May still have to, but I'm hoping it can be avoided. In the meantime: Knights, Huntsmen and Crossbowmen now ready for ink and then basing! HOWEVER: my thumbs have gone weird, so I'm not sure how much of this I'll get done. My priority is to get everyone inked and the Skeleton Swordsmen at least built and ideally primed. We'll see if I can get some bases detailed, or if I have to slow down and avoid carpal tunnel nonsense.

If you're wondering what six thousand points of assorted Sylvanians look like: it looks a bit like that. The great work is never really done: there are bases I'd like to harmonise somehow, colours that could use a lift, and those Knights don't look like the same PERSON painted all three units (here's a challenge: which ones did I paint in 2004, which ones did I paint this week, and which ones did I rehabilitate after some teenager painted them with goddamn POSTER PAINT or something?), but "perfect" is the enemy of "good enough" and with EGG on the horizon like a big EGG shaped thing, "good enough" will just have to be... good enough. Also, isn't my new hobby space lush? I've been breaking up the Man Cave because I don't actually like having a Man Cave, I'd rather spend time in the same room as my wife and cat during the four or so hours of any given day when we're all awake at the same time, and also we have this bureau we're not doing anything with and it looks pretty damn neat if you ask me.

Oooo. You got married? Congratulations. :-) Also, nice bureau. I'm a bit jealous.

Your hobby space looks just perfect. I've never been a big fan of man caves - who would you want to hide your hobbies, or even yourself, at your own home?
Also, that is very impressive army! I used to play with Carstein army back in the day but never managed to get more than 3000 points painted.

Spot the VC player - he's the guy who puts a massive piece of furniture in the window to block out all the light. Sorry to hear about your troubles, hopefully things will pick up for you soon.

I've never been a big fan of man caves - who would you want to hide your hobbies, or even yourself, at your own home? If you share living space with other humans, you'll do well to put a room aside solely for storage of and playing games. It's not about hiding it, it's about organising it, having dedicated space to do it all, and not having it constantly in everyone else's way, or other people's stuff in the way of it. And, if you've got kids, everything is either chewable, or breakable, so you put it in a specific room that has stowage that protects your stuff from the kids, and the kids from your stuff. I've never been able to dedicate a whole room to my hobby. I'm jealous of those who can.

I have a hobby room because my missus can't stand clutter, and my working areas by definition are mostly clutter.

Hmm. So, my miss raised a point.
Man caves where you hide away in them in order to avoid spending time with your partner and/or kids, that's not good, and not healthy.
Man caves where you keep your clutter, have a gaming table, display cabinets, that sort of thing, but then you also have a spot in the communal areas of the house where you hobby in the company of your family, that's what I aspire to, and the correct way to do it.
(If your hobby involves working on e.g. engines, or toxic chemicals, then maybe your man cave does need to be a place of isolation, but that's with good reason... (When my miss's dad died, they had to get his lab (in the house) cleaned out by a specialist chemical disposal company...))

So I'm not saying I'm back on this bullshit or anything, but I *did* just buy a new pot of purple paint... and I *did* just find the twenty-odd Skeleton Swordsmen I was supposed to be fixing up... and I *did* just draft a blog post that's had me searching out the book o' lists again...

I'm going to suggest that, assuming you've not already done so, you do some themed terrain to keep the horde company. Garden of Morr. Or a longbarrow or two. Or a spooky wood. That sort of thing.

Funny you should mention that: I happen to have two half finished Gardens of Morr in the spare room! But I'm also hoarding foam board from work (seriously, I've nicked so many promo stands) and I'm eyeing up some nice sheets of MDF in the cellar. A Plan is Forming...
