A little background on myself before I start the blog proper. I started playing Warhammer in 1992, with the fourth edition boxset. The goblins and elves were too daunting for me to paint at the time, so I also bought a Skeleton Army box for practise. That practise turned into my first fully painted army, the Undead. It was the first army I took to a GW tournament. I even had a couple of WD articles printed about it. Down the years I have collected a lot of armies, for different races. I have sold off three Undead armies, still have a fully painted square based (multi base KOW style) army in a box, and a couple of years ago started this smaller force, with Saga in mind. So effectively it is my fifth Undead army (not counting any commission work I have done). When Dragon Rampant and Warlords of Erewhon came along, I had even more reasons to return to my roots. So here we go, the story of the Lord of Bleak Fell. Note: I live in the county of Cumbria in the UK, and round here hills and mountains are called fells. I also played Skyrim a lot, and the first real dungeon I explored was Bleak Falls Barrow. Put those together, and you get Bleak Fell. Well I did.

The first thing I usually do when I start an army is paint up some basic troops, the backbone of the army. I already had a few plastic zombies started for a previous project, and I managed to score a couple of the metal Rackham figures on ebay, so that was a good starting point. In a short time I had my first couple of regiments. Mindless shamblers need some control, so then I painted up an old Empire wizard as a necromancer. I think that's enough for the first post, got to leave the audience wanting more.

Very nice, and as a fellow delver in Bleak Falls Barrow (it's almost like a second home after all the deleting and rerolling I've done!) I have to salute the choice of name. I'm particularly taken with that Heresy necromancer (it is a Heresy Necromancer, right?) lurking in the middle there.

Superb work and great name! Big fan of DR and how easy it is to get a game sorted in an evening with chatting!
Cant wait to see more of your work!

I believe the fellow with blood drops on his sword in indeed and old GW necromancer! Yes it is. For some reason, probably me being an old duffer, I thought it was an Empire wizard. Duh. We need a dunce emoticon.

Wow! Really realistic! And that Empire wizard fits in perfectly. The eefie glow over the whole thing, but particularly the wizard’s gem, really goves the force atmosphere. 🧙♂️

Thanks. Actually, I think we decided it was a necromancer after all. I reckon he pours a few drops of that green liquid on to the ground, then reads a spell from that scroll, maybe calling the dead by their real names, and they come shambling around him.

This is a regiment of ghouls and their minder. The ghouls are plastic goblins from Escape from Goblin Town, I trimmed off any handbags. The big guy is, pretty obviously, an ogre kingdoms butcher. I got this idea from another game, not that I spend all my time painting and gaming. For 10 internet bonus points, can you name that game? In gaming terms, the ghouls are straight forward - there's eight because at the time I painted them I had Saga in mind. The butcher, I would probably play him in Erewhon as an ogre (duh), or something similar. There's usually a way to shoehorn your minis into your game somehow.

Great work on the Necromancer (and the rest of the force of course, he just stood out to me for some reason).

Those Goblins ghoul up very nicely. Why didn't I think of that?
